Front-End Web Developer!
Front-End UI/UX Web Developer collaborates with stakeholders to develop and iterate wireframes and designs that produce visual elements for Rock Island Auction Company (RIAC) website and web-based applications throughout the user interface (UI) while enhancing user experience (UX) and bridging the gap between graphical design and technical implementation.
This role requires you to work onsite Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm at our Bedford, TX location. Additionally, RIAC offers the opportunity for a hybrid schedule consisting of two (2) days' remote work contingent upon meeting introductory period requirements.
Essential Job Functions
- Develops new user-facing features for RIAC website and web-based applications while enhancing UX
- Designs prototypes; writes and tests reusable code for new or existing applications and builds libraries for future use
- Ensures technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
- Optimizes front-facing applications for maximum speed, scalability and cross-browser compatibility
- Collaborate with back-end development to improve front-facing integrations
- Identifies new technologies for additional visual display capabilities and enhance site usability.
- Bridges the gap between graphical design and technical implementation by collaborating with team members while also taking an active role to define (or redefine) the look, feel, and use for new (and existing) applications
- Supports back-end integration and maintains graphic/marketing standards and RIAC branding throughout the UI
- Works required auction weekends (approx. 6 per year)
- Travels domestically up to 5% including overnights to attend training, meetings, and/or other work-related events
- Completes other tasks, duties, and projects as assigned
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and UI/UX best practices
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability and willingness to learn and follow all company rules for firearm safety and general safety
- Strong work ethic with standards of excellence for productivity, efficiency, and accuracy
- Deep understanding of front-end web development and UI/UX design
- Strong working knowledge of HTML/CSS (e.g., JSX and Tailwind CSS)
- Understanding of key website/web app design principles and SEO optimization
- Basic knowledge of Git, GitLab, and Git-flow
- Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript (e.g., React)
- Basic knowledge of testing tools such as Vitest
- Ability to effectively collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge and ability to use sound judgement and logical reasoning
- Effective communication skills with ability to establish and maintain relationships with professional, positive, and polished demeanor
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to swiftly pivot and/or multi-task in order to balance competing priorities and successfully meet deadlines
- Knowledge, skill, and ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information and data
- Willingness and desire for continuous professional development through self-education to learn, know, and understand industry trends
- Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to use and operate mobile devices; office machinery such as computer, copier, printer, and scanner; and other relevant equipment
- Reads, writes, speaks, and understands English fluently
- Experience working in an Agile development flow
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Three (5) years’ relevant work experience with front-end web development and UI/UX design responsibilities required
- Proven work experience with HTML/CSS and version control (e.g., Git, GitLab, and Git-Flow) required
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Vitest, and Figma (Sketch or other design tools) highly preferred
Physical Requirements
Constant sedentary work for prolonged periods up to 100% of the time with routinely moving and transporting up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 25 pounds. Must be able to travel up to 5% using various modes of transportation including airplane. Must be able to detect, identify, inspect, troubleshoot, test, observe, perceive, and assess web development operations. Must be able to constantly communicate and exchange accurate information. Constantly operates and uses computer and other relevant equipment and office machinery while performing repetitious movements. Constantly works with and around firearms, bladed weaponry, militaria, historic relics, and valuable collectibles.
